Hey fellow collectors!
I've decided to write a few more blogs on here and I'll start with a bit of rambling with something that I do daily.
And that's checking AmiAmi's pre-owned section!
I really love it and lurk daily on there (except for Sunday when it doesn't update). Since I only started actively collecting last year it's a great place to look for figures I want even though they're not available in normal retail anymore or that I would otherwise pay exorbitant amounts for.
A week or two ago I was casually looking through the pre-owned section again and saw one of the Persona figures I've wanted for some time - ITEM #287805. I clicked on her with excitement but was soon let down because her condition was C. I've never bought a figure with C condition before and was a little taken back and discouraged. As much as I appreciate pre-owned figures, I still want them to look great or like new and C condition unfortunately doesn't offer much promise of that.
Still, I couldn't just let it go. Especially since the AmiAmi pre-owned section can be ruthless. You wait one minute too long to buy a figure? It's gone! You hesitate? Gone!
Quickly, I read the red font that said she has a paint transfer on her knee/leg. I frowned and wrestled with myself for quite some time - which was actually just five minutes but hey, it sounds more dramatic.
Anyway, I bought her and thanks to AmiAmi's as usual great service she arrived some time ago!

She's a prize figure so hey, nothing too grand but I think she's very cute nevertheless and a great addition to my ever-growing (Persona) collection.
Now the important part though: the paint transfer.

Her knee is quite scrapped, not gonna lie, but nothing too bad and nothing a little paint and sealing can't fix. Plus if you angle her right you can't see the white paint much. Time for a Fixer Upper ...
Now, how about you guys? Do you dabble in pre-owned figure sections and what are your favorite sites for doing so? Did you ever snatch a grail you really wanted from there? Or did a grail get snatched from in front of your eyes ... oh, the tragedy!

off-topic but I never got amiami's preowned section update schedule like,,, sometimes I go on and it doesn't update for a while or sometimes I refresh and there's new stuff :")
Wow - lucky you with that figure. I think they mostly update around 3 - 5 PM Japanese time because that's when new pre-owned stuff starts coming in.
donnabanana • Vor 2 Jahren • #86908094View spoilerHide spoilerI usually buy pre-owned from Amiami with A or B condition, both scale and prize. A/B is practically brand new, A-/B figure is sealed but box is unsealed. Also bought B/B ITEM #176108 which had been obviously displayed because there's dust, but other than that the figure is in good condition.
I'm eyeing this particular C figure with issue: Discoloration. Anyone who has experience buying a C figure with similar issue? I hope it's not too noticeable.
Yeah, most of my figures have been A or B as well which is why my first C figure was a little .. scary. I've been eyeing a figure with Discoloration too (ofc it already got snatched away) because I reckon that it would be a way harder thing to fix.
The worst AmiAmi secondhand story I ever heard can be found in the comments of this figure... items.v4.php?it...
(TLDR: C grade AmiAmi figure had uh, liquids on it and smelled. There was no way to know this because AmiAmi only listed it vaguely as a stain.)
Oh YUCK that's nasty. With these kind of erotic-ish figures I would always be super paranoid getting them second hand. I always thoroughly clean the ones I get anyway but man - so sorry for you. But I agree, A and B conditions are fine because they're basically like new but they really need to add pictures of C-rated stuff.
dtindcarea • Vor 2 Jahren • #86908516View spoilerHide spoilerFrom a normal viewing distance in that one photo, so she looks like a good prize figure. I have always said that you can enjoy viewing prize figures just as much as more expensive scales (even if the prize figures are less than perfect). I've had mostly good experiences buying used figures from MFC users and Amazon Japan, although the discount to buying new has to be worth the risk of some flaws. Still, I tend to buy mostly new because the bulk of my purchases these days are pre-orders rather than hunting for old releases.
If you do re-paint your figure's flaws, you'll have to show us the before and after photos. I did a small re-paint of one of my prize figures that had noticeable scratches/nicks so it's doable.
I agree, she looks really good. I pre-order a lot too nowadays but still hunting for some older gems. And I will definitely show my progress when I find the time to fix her!
Takeya_Iizuka • Vor 2 Jahren • #86908841View spoilerHide spoilerMost of my scaled figures are AmiAmi pre-owned with damage (C rating). Prices are usually 50% of the current market price, so the saving is substantial. AmiAmi is mostly quite honest and accurate with damage descriptions. You have to think realistically if the faults are bearable or if you have the means to make repairs. For example, slight paint transfers are easy to fix, while broken or missing parts will make it not worth while.
I've previously written an article about one of my repairs here.
I'll definitely give that article a read later! Also yeah, the price decrease when they have C-rated flaws is immense which is why it's so tempting ...
akechisupremacy • Vor 2 Jahren • #86909116View spoilerHide spoilerahh, i actually had that exact listing and figure in my cart in amiami last week! (i have a saved bookmark that takes me directly to the preowned search term "persona" that i check once a day) i remember wanting to buy her, since i missed out on getting her when she was really cheap on amazon japan several months ago, but the condition kept bothering me. when i went back about an hour later to continue procrastinating on whether to get her or not, she was gone. i thought whoever got her was lucky, lol
but back to the topic! since im banned from mandarake, my favorite places are amiami for their descriptions and grading systems, and amazon jp for their trustworthiness and fair shipping prices.
i finally got one of my grails ITEM #33495 on amazon jp, and im just waiting for her to ship. they were the only website where 1. i could find her in great used condition without paint fading, broken parts, and dirt and 2. shipping wasn't crazy expensive mandarake invoiced me $200 for shipping for her... yeah no
Oh my god, I can't believe I snatched her away. Lowkey sorry ... but that's what I mean with you gotta act fast on AmiAmi. The Persona section is probably one of the more competitive one. Figures get sold there so quickly ... Damn 200 $ on shipping. Glad you found your grail though!

That's ... nasty.
LEONthemercenary • Vor 2 Jahren • #86959620View spoilerHide spoilerVery good figure choice, Marie is an awesome character! Out of curiosity, how much is shipping from amiami usually? Just curious if you're buying multiple prize figures from there and if the shipping price is good.
I love Marie too! I do buy multiple prize figures on some days but unfortunately I don't ship them together most of the time because I have to pay import taxes if my overall package costs 24 € or more (πーπ). Luckily the shipping for these smaller figures is quite inexpensive on AmiAmi since I can use Air Small Packet. Mostly comes down to 1.500 Yen +/- and they don't write the shipping cost on the package for this shipping option.

ITEM #72838
I usually browse through mandarake and surugaya for released products. Since amiami means huge customs bill for me, no thanks. Unless it's below 22 euro like the C condition item :)
Stained I avoid. It will bother me after a while and I'm not good at fixing. Plus you dunno what caused the stain
