Kadokawa's Super Neptunia RPG 1/6 Neptune ReviewKadokawa's Super Neptunia RPG 1/6 Neptune ReviewReview

Oh boy, I've been wanting to do my first review for some time now and I've noticed little to no coverage on this figure since her release in October, so I figured it may be my time to shine! HDN is a huge series for me, I adore it, it's overwhelming positivity has helped me through some rougher times, which I suppose explains how it's become the most dominant series in my developing collection.
I was pretty excited to see a non-lewded-loli version of Nep, but passed on the original release due to her being a regional exclusive, and decided to buy Alter's 1/7th Purple Heart at the time instead. You can imagine my excitement when I saw a pre-owned offer for her on AmiAmi, still sealed and new, just with some (barely noticeable) box damage. I swept her up fast! She came out to about $111.38 before shipping.
As a minor note for these images, I have not been graced with good weather recently so some of the images may be a little gray-ish due to the natural lighting. :p The sun peaked through for a little which is when I started taking pictures, but unfortunately it didn't last very long. It's been raining for 3 days straight, I just couldn't wait to review Nep in all her glory.

With all of that out of the way, let's begin! Of course first impressions always begin with the packaging itself. I don't think there's too much to say on box design, it is pretty cute and like many has various pictures and angles of the figure it contains. The blister felt very sturdy and secure. Like I mentioned, mine came with box damage, however this seems to be limited to some bending in the blister towards the top as well as the top flap, and some denting in the front window. My Next Black Heart came with the front dented due to TOM overpacking, and I didn't get a discount for that, so I can't complain in the slightest.

I thought this was a particularly cute detail ^

Now for what you're here for, the Nepster herself!

First impressions are nearly nothing but positive. She requires no assembly, you just slip her foot onto a metal peg in her base and display. Her base does feel/look a little on the cheaper end, and the trademarks and "MADE IN CHINA" imprinted on it towards the back do not help with this impression. If I'm being totally honest, I don't mind it that much as I'm kind of used to afterthought bases, but I can definitely see it bothering others. The trademark isn't visible unless closely inspecting, and I am at least thankful that it doesn't take up more space than necessary. She is NOT particularly secure though, and while I do not fear she'll fall off, she is quite prone to wiggling.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388131.jpeg

I'm bad at segways, let's start looking at the finer details! I quite like her shoes, the translucent material that makes the soles of her shoes surprised and impressed me. I can't say it's an aspect of her design I considered, but it looks quite nice to me.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388123.jpeg

I start to critique this figure a little more as we move upwards to her leggings. The paint is a little chunky, and you can see some indentations, particularly on her bent leg, that are a little more noticeable than I would have liked. The stripes of the leggings are overall cleanly painted, though I can't quite say the same for the tops of them where texture can be noticed. It's not very noticeable from your average viewing distance, but does put a damper on things in closer inspection. The seam line running down her leg is also not giving her any bonus points...

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388127.jpeg
Down towards her ankles, she also appears to feature another visible connection point between her feet and the lower end of her legs. I assume this was due to the Dengeki Special Pack version which featured panda slippers, but as someone who did not get this pack, I find it a little annoying for it to reflect on my version.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388156.jpeg

Now to start inspecting my favorite Nep outfit, her signature white and purple hoodie. I do feel that most of her charm and quality shines here.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388119.jpeg
First impressions are pretty solid, the stripes are overall cleanly painted with little to no error. Similar to the soles of her shoes, the D-pad designs featured on the... pocket things of her hoodie have a translucent purple that looks quite nice in lighting.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388124.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388159.jpeg
The strings of her hoodie are very cute, I have no complaints here. They chose a nice metallic paint for the connectors, and they are quite cleanly painted for such small pieces.
Her zipper features her signature "N" logo, which once again is composed of a translucent, slightly shinier purple plastic. Being that it's a little clearer, it is easier to see where it's connected into the base of the zipper. The D-pad pockets feature a similar issue, but less visibly.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388125.jpeg
The back of her hoodie also features her "N" logo. There are two small spots of raised paint on the outer rim of the N, but the painting within it is quite nice and well printed. The halftone gradient is very nice (though I don't think you can tell it's halftone without very close inspection.) The little button flap before the logo has some slightly messy painting but otherwise looks fine.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388122.jpeg

Now for Histoire! At least, I'm pretty sure it's Histoire? I haven't played Super Neptunia RPG yet, I'm not very big on platformers...
The details on her... it? are quite fine, the shiny, metallic finish of the gold paint is very nice. I do wish there were an option to display her without the book, but otherwise there is no complaint to be had.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388121.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388130.jpeg
Neptune's hands are very nice, her nails are have a slight shiny finish and her knuckles are well defined.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388129.jpeg

Like the paint of her thigh-highs, the paint of her collar gets a little rougher but less noticeably so. The raise next to the small blue X is meant to be there, and with close inspection you can see what's presumably the clasp as well next to it.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388128.jpeg
She does have visible collar bones though they are very faint, partially due to my lighting situation and partially due to her pose causing them to be raised and obscured by her collar.
While taking these pictures, I noticed that she had a randomly placed seam line located on her hood.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388157.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388135.jpeg
Her face is very cute. I feel they captured Neptune's likeness and Tsunako's style quite well. The D-pads in her hair are well painted with no errors that I noticed.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388134.jpeg
The seam connecting her bangs with the rest of her hair is fairly visible, though I feel this is pretty standard among most figures and doesn't take away from the sculpt itself. Her sculpt is very well defined, and a lot less rounded off then I think her prototype pictures presented. I do find myself wishing her hair was a little brighter and more purple-toned. While not dull, her hair is quite light especially when compared to her advertised photos.

That should be it for inspecting her from toe to head, now, how does she look next to others? I only own one other 1/6 which is Phat's school uniform Tamamo no Mae. Tamamo, at least to me, appears to be ever so slightly larger than Neptune, but they do measure up together quite well.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388132.jpeg
A good match in size I found was Stronger's 1/7 Syaro Kirima, Lapin version. Neptune in this case is the bigger of the two, but their loli proportions measure up well. The matching Chino Kafuu also measures up well, being of the same line and scale as Syaro.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388138.jpeg

And of course, how could I not measure up Neptune up to Big Neppy?
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388133.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388136.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/02/13/2388137.jpeg
They do actually compare quite well to each other, despite Next Purple and Purple Heart being 1/7th's. Neptune's face is a little larger than theirs (mainly Next Purple's) but I feel she displays quite nicely with them both.

Final Thoughts

Overall I feel grabbing this figure will largely depend on how big of a Neptune fan you are as well as how accessible she is. If you're lucky enough to find her closer to $100-$110, I do definitely think she is worth the purchase if you love the Neptunia franchise or Nep-Nep herself. I just cannot recommend buying her at her full base price of $149, both due to the simplicity of the figure itself as well as the various quality control issues I found her, mainly the seam lines found on her leg and hoodie. The connection points on her lower legs to her feet also do bother me quite a bit, especially as someone who did not get the bonus parts version.

On the positive spectrum of things, I feel her pose is very fitting and well translated from the original Tsunako illustration. Her expression is cute, and her sculpt is overall very good save for the quality control issues I found. I also quite like the use of more translucent and shiny plastics for her soles, pockets, and zipper.

She is very, very cute and I can honestly say that regardless of the issues I have found with her, I do and will continue to enjoy having her in my collection. I love my Nep collection!

If you made it to the end of this despite my ramblings, thanks so much for your time! Was it a good first review? :D Are there any figures in my collection that you would like to see a review on?

CloudberryVor 7 Monaten#75685409I'm glad that NIS America/Europe (or Idea Factory) localized Hyperdimension Neptunia series and got hugely popular.
Otherwise, if they didn't, we wouldn't be blessed with figures like this.
This figure is really cute! I like Neptune's cheery smile and the her pose makes Neptune look like a magical girl casting a spell.
Thanks for the review!

I've been trying not to reply to people with generic thank you's too much, but really, thank you guys for the comments and kind words. ^^ I'm really looking forward to making my next review (tho I have no idea what to review next)

dtindcareaVor 7 Monaten#75633740That's pretty reasonable. I know I got blown away one time when I put my figure in the cart and got a shipping cost of $60-65 because it wasn't SAL eligible. And this was for a $120 figure.
Oof, most of my larger figures have been bought via TOM while they were still doing free shipping on everything $150 or more so I don't think I've ever paid more than $30 for shipping. I know when Lilac Purple Heart comes from my AmiAmi preorder though that it will probably hit hard. Bracing myself for the inevitable lol

FrickfaceVor 7 Monaten#75632008I feel that, I spent like 2 months+ saving up for it just to decide the base price was too much justify.
I don't have a record of the prices available for all the shipping options, but Air Small Packet was $20, and DHL was $29 which is what I ended up going with.

dtindcareaVor 7 Monaten#75631309Thanks for the review. I personally thought it was too pricey at full price when I considered buying it a while back so it looks like you got a good deal for it. What was the shipping cost? It is particularly relevant for me since were are close in location. I always base my purchases on the all-in cost and shipping from these Japanese sellers can add significantly to the cost versus US based sellers.
