Raphtalia - Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari - 1/7 Kotobukiya ReviewRaphtalia - Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari - 1/7 Kotobukiya ReviewReview

Hi MFC.
I just got my Raphtalia in the mail today and I just had to review her. I bought her off Amazon Japan, my first figure purchase from there, since she was a little cheaper than my usual preorder shop Amiami (including faster shipping and upfront import fees). I was a little worried since I had read some stories about poor packing jobs from Amazon Japan but thankfully she arrived in perfect condition. Here she is, everyone's favorite raccoon girl Raphtalia in a 1/7 scale by Kotobukiya.

For anyone who doesn't know, Raphtalia is the heroine from a recent popular isekai: The Rising of the Shield Hero (Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari). When the protagonist Naofumi is left with no allies he purchases Raphtalia as a young slave girl to be his sword (since he has limited offensive capabilities as the shield hero). Within a few episodes she grows from a child into adolescence, a characteristic of her race when then level up. In this scale figure she is depicted in her adult form stomping a balloon type enemy with her sword at the ready.

Although the face looks good, I do find it a little plain looking. I would love to have seen a more expressive face whether that would be her endearing smile or a more battle ready expression.

She comes with two sword options, the magic sword (pictured above) and a regular looking sword. The magic sword has a nice translucent look to it and is definitely the one I will be displaying her with (forgot to take a picture with the regular sword sorry!).

A nice base can really take a figure's visual impact to the next level, and this base looks great. There's some nice looking grass and rocks but the highlight is the balloon type monster which is being stomped on. It's very shiny looking and the bright orange really pops out and looks great. It's a bit of a shame though that it faces toward the back of the figure and is almost a bit hidden from what would be the typical angle you would view this figure from.

Overall I really like this figure. It has a unique base and the pose is simple but elegant. Assembly was quite simple, the sword slid into her hands easily but the tail was a little tricky to get in (her hair was sort of in the way). Would definitely recommend this figure to any fan of the series.

Thanks for reading! Let me know what you think!

They sure did (for both me and my brother's orders)
DHL seemed to be careful with the packages though

I'm so on the fence about her, something odd about the mouth going on. Will wait till Wonfest to see if any other Raphtalias are teased before I pull the trigger.

Nice review! I just got mine from AmiAmi today, which means everyone who got her from Amazon.co.jp got her earlier, too.
You're really lucky she did come in good shape, as Amazon Japan does have a tendency to use these thin cardboard boxes that dent or tear easily. I would hope they didn't use them for a scale, but I've seen them use those crummy boxes for orders with three artbooks in them before, and they definitely used that type for a nendoroid before. :/. The boxes are always badly damaged when I buy artbooks. The nendo and box were lucky fine, though. At any rate, I'm glad she arrived safely, and I REALLY hope they didn't use those thin boxes. Those are what have been stopping me from ordering from them, that and their return policy, where we have to return the figure using our own money and then be reimbursed if they decide it was what we claim. :/.
Anyway, about the figure.. I agree about her face. Even though it's basically the same as the prototype, it somehow looks more plain or less serious. It's a bit disappointing, honestly, at least the prototype looked like she was fighting. I am glad to hear otherwise she does look as she should, though, and I agree with you regarding the balloon. It should have been facing the other way, as its expression is hidden.

I'm glad she turned out mostly good, though. There aren't really any better figures right now, so it's a good thing at least this one is pretty good. :).

cyclo195Vor 7 Monaten#75104451Must say I was impressed by Amazon Japan, only took a few days to arrive and actually spent a few hundred yen less than buying on Amiami with 3 week shipping. I will definitely be keeping them in mind for future preorders
Yup, TOM had marked up this particular Koto significantly. Even with a TOM sale, it was pretty much the same price shipped as Amazon JP.

Bonus was that Amazon JP even refunded me ~¥1K upon shipment as per their lowest price guarantee for preorders!

galablueVor 7 Monaten#75096078Thanks for the review! I had been looking at this figure because Raph was my best girl of 2019.
I love the base and the extra sword. I agree that her face is very plain, which is a bummer because she has such a cute face typically (and her face looks different in her prototype ... looks more serious). I also am bummed out about the balloon facing away -- you'd never see his funny expression. In my opinion, this figure had a lot of potential but didn't live up to what it could have been. I hope they release some more Raphtalia figures!

Agreed! There's a few minor details keeping it from being a really great figure, it's a shame but I still really like the figure. Would also love to see some more Raphtalia figures in the future, with two more Shield Hero seasons on the way I think it's likely.

Also received her via DHL this afternoon (same for my brother)

Kimm134SayaVor 7 Monaten#75097585Still waiting for my 6 orders to arrive. Your photos look good, so I shouldn't need to choose the best one. Hopefully, there's no defect or something.
Looking forward to it!

Thanks! I was only able to spot one small paint defect on mine but it was so minor you would never notice unless you were staring right at it up close
