Mysterious BNHA Figures?Mysterious BNHA Figures?Ask MFC

Hi guys! Today I have a weird little mystery on my hands!

I’m at Target poking around in the fandom and games section when I come across some strange new MHA stuff!

I got super excited bcus Ochaco was in the line-up, but confused as I had never seen this figure of her before! (I check pretty obsessively lol)

Found nothing on them on MFC ofc, but more than that, I also couldn’t find info on it on the Target site with a barcode scan, and scanning them with the Target MyDevice also brought no results aside from general stock info. Not uncommon at Target (I also work there), but stranger still when the greater Internet has little to say about them either

I took a few pics of the box to help me identify:

And here’s a product shot from Google:

Pretty standard seeming right? But googling gave me pretty limited results. The only sellers I could find were Otaku Square and an Italian anime site, which leads me to believe they’re perhaps European-made?

But if so, why aren’t they in the database? Are these considered unofficial or bootleg in some way? I really don’t know how to tell, as they definitely aren’t /knock-offs/ of any kind, and my workplace is certainly not known for selling unofficial products (unlike, say, Amazon or a Dollar store or whatever)

So what’s the skinny y’all? Are they database-able? And can anybody figure out where the heck to get more? (aside from shilling for the whole set in Euros)

And no—I didn’t even find an ochaco ;m; there were only 2 floating in the store I could find, and both were Iidas :/ yes I cheese’d the boxes, so sue me

So after seeing this yesterday I had to find out. I got one and it’s basically a little mini figure you put together. https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/15/2332660.jpeg

These are definitely real. Target and Gamestop never sell bootleg items, they only work with licensed distributors. The reason these aren't listed is probably because they're kind of crappy, low-quality figures that were released unannounced with very little fanfare. If you'd like to see them added though, you should definitely add them!

MarshmallowpieVor 9 Monaten#70260140You're slightly wrong here, rather than "Made in Japan" or "Made in China", it's whether the company is from Japan, or somewhere else. Pretty sure most figures by all the big Japanese figure companies are actually made in China, and marked that way, or that's at least how it was in my collecting days. (Unless the reason the prices have gone up so much is to make them in Japanese factories now, but I doubt it.)
Also, I can't imagine that an unofficial product would go to the trouble of including Funimation's logo and details.

Thanks for the clarification, company origin is what I was going for.

And yeah, these figures must be official, the inevitable lawsuit for printing those details on the box if it were bootlegs would greatly outweigh the potential profit.

- Made in Japan, Property from [insert country] = yes
- Made in [insert country], Property from Japan = yes, as long as it's licensed
- Made in China, Property NOT from Japan = nope

I also just saw these are Target too. I looked up the company and they apparently hold licenses to a lot of series. They don't have MHA specifically listed on their website, but I found this tweet (twitter.com/jus...) which is specifically them announcing these products being made and then this tweet (twitter.com/jus...) where they say that they've been working on getting new licenses, so I would assume that their MHA products are officially licensed. So these are definitely allowed in the database, it's just that sometimes western merch can be missed/looked over. The company does have an entry on here (ENTRY #95946).

I found these same figures for sale at GameStop a couple of weeks ago!

The manufacturer is based in Hong Kong, bright and bold lettering on the box there. It.. LOOKS licensed? Not sure how legal it is to print the Funimation logo and associated identification on the box without permission, and that's from a big-box store too.

It's not on here because that's clearly a Chinese manufacturer. Not many people here keep track and post figures from said companies because they make a lot of bootlegs, which these could be. At the very least if they are legit and simply made direct from China, they should be allowed because the property is Japanese origin.

Rules here are:
- Made in Japan, Property from [insert country] = yes
- Made in [insert country], Property from Japan = yes, as long as it's licensed
- Made in China, Property NOT from Japan = nope

So, no domestic China stuff, no bootlegs. Assuming these figures are licensed, they're fine on MFC.

I assume they don't have the official licence to mha so they shouldn't be allowed. (If they don't have the licence you could consider it as "bootleg") If they do then they could be added since the origin is japanese. Then these rules apply;

Japanese origin+japanese manufacturer = ok
Japanese origin+non japanese manufacturer= ok
Non japanese origin+non japanese company= not ok
Non japanese origin+japanese manufacturer= ok

I would imagine that they would be allowed as it's a Japanese series and shouldn't be a bootleg, just a matter of one of those things that isn't added right away.

Western or small-time company releases seem to fall through the cracks sometimes. I've seen the occasional Funko or oddball Western trading figure pop-up with an entry sometimes a couple years after release, or even just one or two out of the set get added just because someone was wanting to add something they got and couldn't find.
