The deep deception with the Osomatsu San nendoroid stickersThe deep deception with the Osomatsu San nendoroid stickers

Hello everyone!
This is my first article on a specific topic, so take it easy!
I'm going to talk about the mess that the GSC gave when it decided to include stickers in place of the old water decals, which in my point of view are even easier to apply.
Why did it take me so long to talk / complain about something that has been released for so long? Because only now I took courage and decided to put them all at once.
As soon as I bought the nendoroids, I tried to put the stickers and I failed miserably, but I only failed with Osomatsu (# 623) and as soon as I realized that it would be hard work to do with the rest, I left it aside and decided to appeal to the community, I asked for all which I saw having acquired the nendoroids, I decided to ask everyone if they would sell the stickers separately.
In front of many "NO" and unanswered messages, some people were kind and answered and in one of those responses I was able to buy an extra set of stickers because one day I would try to put them back, even if without much success, but I needed to have something plus only two sheets of stickers.

By doing a general analysis, the eyes look good in most cases, because the flatter part of the faceplate helps a lot.
Since the mouths have a serious problem because of the curvatures of the faceplates, but if the shape of the mouth is narrow or small, it is good, as was the case of Karamatsu faceplates that came out perfect.
On a first try, I figured that if I used water in contact with the adhesive it would slip on the faceplate and even reduce contact, but that type of glue that was used does not mix with water. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There is a 2013 Kahotan article that teaches you to put water decals more effectively and in that article the very large mouth is cut into smaller pieces. I thought I would try something like that and see if I would have the same result. The article is this one: mikatan.goodsmi...
I still have my sticker sheets and a complete set of stickers that I bought, who knows at some point I try to practice these Kahotan tips or if someone has a better tip, please share them!
I wanted to find a place where you could send the pictures and they would be turned into water stickers, it would probably be a great idea.
Well, now I'm going to share the photos I took today so you can see the results (most horrible of course).

In the case of waterslide decals, decal setting solution like Microset might help to soften a decal, but these stickers... why did GSC even include them when they go on like this? But at least Karamatsu looks good.

Oh gosh, I had SO much trouble with the wide mouths. I ruined a Totty sticker as well (luckily I don't plan on reselling him). Only Karamatsu's mouths worked for me. You are spot on about the eyes, they really are easier to put on. I was tempted to use them but draw my own mouths because of it. Maybe some day!

WindsorSeven (Vor 22 Tagen) #43854790I had this problem waaay back in the day with one of the Kagamine nendoroids (I think the Cheerful version?). Sucks to see they still haven't fixed it.

I believe that the Kagamine decals (water decals) are easier to apply, at least I've had some experiences with gundam decals and I found it practical, even though they are very fragile.

Thanks for this article. This pretty much confirms my initial fears with the stickers. You're right about the large mouth stickers being the real problem, but it's only because of how the faceplates are curved at the cheeks/mouth.

I haven't tried applying any of my stickers on the blank faceplates, but I've used one spare faceplate on a practice custom. I used a waterslide decal and encountered the same problem with the mouth curvature at first, but got around it by cutting some slits in the decal so that it's not a huge solid rounded piece.

That doesn't seem like it's going to work with most of the wide mouth stickers though. I'm definitely going to scan the stickers first and try to apply them as waterslide decals. So that I can get an unlimited amount of attempts at putting them on.

kojuuro (Vor 22 Tagen) #43837332Ouch, I was really close to buying these when they came out but was really worried about the stickers. It's a shame that they didn't release extra faces separately when at the height of the Osomatsu san popularity, they definitely would have sold.

Well, as they are doing with face swap, could give a new chance to these faceplates and make them for sale, I would certainly buy them.

I applaud you for even attempting this. I've been so certain I would screw it up that I never bothered to try lol...I'm also annoyed that I have to choose between which stickers to use or buy extra faces from someone.

Maybe I'll at least give it a shot now that I have a better idea of what to expect, anyways. Generally if I'm too worried about messing it up, I just leave it intact for the collector value, but I'd much rather enjoy them than keep them boxed up.

I didn't use my stickers since I figured I couldn't get it to look right with those stickers, I'd rather have the blank faces for customs instead.

I had the same trouble with my osomatsu nendoroid, the mouth parts always ended up like that! I wish they just added more face places or went with nendoroid code, i'd of bought them...

thanks for sharing though! glad to know it wasn't just me lol
