Howdy doo, everybody! Time for another review! Today I am reviewing my first GK statue and now one of my top 5 favorite items in my Pokemon collection. I am going to be taking a look at this dynamic resin GK statuette of Lugia by King Finger.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2018/05/03/1973614.jpeg

The box is not the most eye-catching one I've ever seen. It is a large, black box with with some text and other simple graphics on its sides.

The figure and its many parts are stored in a thick styrofoam casing. After some tedious assembly, you have this beauty ready to bring some magnificence to your Pokemon display.

Here we have Lugia emerging from an intense whirlpool while performing its signature attack, Aeroblast. All of this is on top of a stylized black stand with the King Finger emblem on the front. You can tell looking at this design that some real passion was put into this product.

Along with the figure, there is a small and classy looking golden envelope also bearing King Finger's logo.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2018/06/18/2003131.jpeg

Inside this envelope is a plastic card. The front just has a reflective King Finger logo.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2018/06/18/2003130.jpeg

The back features assorted information, websites and QR codes related to King Finger Studios. There doesn't seem to be anything relating to this specific product though. It would have been nice if there was some kind of Lugia graphic instead.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2018/06/18/2003129.jpeg

The figure itself stands roughly 9.25 inches tall. As you can see, it is in the same size range as your typical 1/8 scale figure.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2018/06/20/2004479.jpeg

The first detail that caught my attention was the glossiness of Lugia's body. The white of Lugia's body has been given a lustrous coating, giving the body a pearl-like appearance. There is also some good overall paint and shading. You can see faint uses of a faded purple used for detailing some of the contours of the body and wings.

The Aeroblast effect was fairly time consuming to put together. All of these parts are held together using sticky tack which comes included with this figure. Be careful handling these pieces as they are thin and fragile.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2018/06/18/2003124.jpeg

The sphere in the center is nicely shaded and sculpted with many groves to emphasize the rotation of the concentration of air. The assorted strands use a combination of colored and semi-transparent parts to represent the air being pulled into the concentration point.

Now let's take a closer look at the base. This is comprised of three layers that loosely sit stacked together: the black stand, the outer swirl of water and the inner water piece with the column Lugia sits on. That being said, be careful when attempting to pick up this figure.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2018/06/18/2003123.jpeg

The black stand has a lovely and ceremonial stone-like appearance. The bits of blue in the texturing gives the impression of being something you might see at a Whirl Island shrine honoring the king of the sea.

There is a contrast between the inner and outer swirls of water. The outer late is solid and shaded with blue and white. This is because the outer layer is water mixed with air as it rises up and is pulled into the Aeroblast.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2018/06/18/2003122.jpeg

The inner layer is a semi-transparent blue resin being the water on the sea Lugia emerges from. This layer is quite nice as it is painted with bits of turquoise and white, giving it a genuine water look.

Other than some criticisms about the base being made of loose fitting parts, I can't really find anything wrong with this figure. This resin statuette is highly detailed and highly dynamic in its presentation. I own many Pokémon items including figures by MegaHouse and Kotobukiya and this is easily among my 3 favorite items in my Pokémon shrine.

These types of figures are primarily sold on EBay and a few shops that specifically sell these types of unlicensed statues. The original price of this item during its pre-order period was around $220 plus international shipping from countries like Singapore and Taiwan. Prices on EBay tend to be in the $300+ region from sellers specializing in these kinds of products. I was lucky to find a pre-owned one for under $200 using a coupon on EBay.

There are also two other variants of this figure. There is one featuring Lugia's shiny color scheme and one of Shadow Lugia from Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness. If I find it for the right price, I may actually buy the Shadow Lugia version too.

After being pleased with this purchase, I plan to add other Pokémon King Finger figures to my display. There is a complimentary Ho-Oh figure I am hunting and I have pre-ordered their new Mega Swampert figure.

Thank your for taking the time to read this review. I hope it has helped you in your decision whether or not to add this item to your collection. The next item on my review list is Di Molto Bene's Blake Belladonna from RWBY. I will have that up in a couple of days.

A real beauty. On top of that Lugia is my favorite Pokemon. I did buy a tiny statue of him which came as a bonus with Pokemon SoulSilver limited edition. Will check eBay for Lugia now. Wish they would do a Gen 2 remake/re-release for the Switch.

There are actually a couple of magnets used for some small parts of the base. There is one strand of water and the column Lugia sits on. But there was only enough tack to use for the Aeroblast effect. The base layers just loosely sit there.

OceanRoostVor 2 Jahren#36214730The figure looks amazing but using sticky tack to hold it together sounds kind of crazy to me! Do you think it would have been better if they had used small magnets instead?

I know, right? That was my most played GameCube game too. Shadow Lugia was my first choice for trying this product, but I wasn't able to find it for a price I could afford at the time. But someday it shall be mine. o3o

lifewithfiguresVor 2 Jahren#36246498That Shadow Lugia variant hit me right in the childhood. Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness was one of my favorite games ever growing up. I would spend hours and hours attached to my Gamecube playing it. I've never really considered owning any scales of Pokemon, but I just might look into this.

Keep Pandering to the pokemon go, crowd, I hope they end up bankrupt soon smh

It's really weird indeed, the franchise has so much potential and the Pokemon Company literally does nothing for years...

First4Figures tried to get a license to make statues but all they've responded in all that time was apparently "We're not interested in licensing (high-end) collectables". Just smh...and at this point I don't even care anymore to be honest.

Good thing there's small fan-run studios like Pokestudios and King Finger out there doing a fantastic job with their limited runs giving fans what they want with great quality.

Every statue from King Finger I own looks absolutely stunning (Shiny Ho-oh, Shiny Lugia, Shadow Lugia, Mega Blastoise and Mega Venusaur).
