1st Day Comiket Report (Going to + After-session analysis)

Hello everyone, let's start a quick presentation first (I've never done that during 7 years on this website huhu)
My nickname is ney(pronounced nii) and i'm living in Tokyo since 3 month already.
Japanese convention in the Tokyo Big Sight is not something new to me, i've already done the AnimeJapan in 2014 and more recently, the Shuuki Reitaisai 3 but the Comic Market was a premiere for me. So, for people who didn't know this event or for curious peoples : Welcome !

Preparation
Comic Market isn't a normal convention, it's the biggest and biggest means there will be a lot of attendants. If you are thinking "Yeah, i will see when i'll arrive" then it is the best way to miss a lot of things :
First : Limited items. In my case, some doujinshi circles are popular as hell and just one hour after the opening could be enough to see some "Sold out"
Second : This is big, really big and there is a lot of people. Doing single row from the bottom to to top can easily take 5 minutes, 10 if there are popular circle.
So for : Pixiv, Twitter, circle.ms. I'll make a complete guideline to how-to-use them efficently but now, i'll only show the result of my favorite list for the first day :

Colors are really important. It can help you to decide from where to start, in my case it was : Red for insta-buy no matter what, Orange is for wanted but i'll check a second time, Purple is secondary, i'll check on the stand BUT after Red and Orange are fullfilled. (and blue was for a friend request).

Insta-frozen :

The actual temperature of Tokyo during the night is near 0˚C and unfortunately if you want all things on your list, you need to wake up during the early morning. That's what i've done. Wake up at 5:30AM and take my train at 6AM:

And since you will wait on the front of the Tokyo Bay you also need to wear some warm clothes : two t-shirts, one sweat, one jacket plus a scarf and gloves (and i was still cold xD)
Actually, taking the Chuo Line was pretty easy and mandaroty to reach Shinjuku for the Yamanote Line. 6:30AM isn't a good hour for the Yamanote but well it's okay, there are some people and i need to stop at Otsuka for taking my 3rd train. And here start the Hell. The Rinkai Line is really recent but is simply horrible for this kind of convention, each stops before reaching your destination will add the necessary bunch of persons to make you uncomfortable before arriving to the temple of Hell : Kokusai-Tenjijo

So after walking around 10 minutes from the station to reach the East(東) Entrance, the waiting game starts here. Here a little picture of the situation at 8:00 AM, so two hours before the opening.

Conclusion :
I'm really happy for this first day, i had the chance to meet my favorites cosplayers and to have a chat with them. Once inside, this first day is pretty calm and was more oriented around Touhou licence and some KanColle stuff in my case. I was pretty lucky to catch everything i wanted, even if i bought some stuff that wasn't in my list but it is the magic of the Comiket !

So for the 21 circles on my list:
- 10 fullfilled (red all, orange 3/4)
- 1 half fullfiled
- 9 dropped
- 1 sold out
- 2 news unexcepted (each 2 doujins)

Next day : Saturday, the hardest. Wish me good luck !

Bonus : Some KanColle in the Tokyo Bay Area

rubyserpent_720 (Vor 10 Monaten) #17196172Awesome I'll look forward to it then. I had a friend who went to C91 she said a lot of tables are packed by 2pm and finished super early. Did you find the same on your side?
Yup, when the author have finished to sell all his stuff or for other reasons, it's pretty common to leave. The first hour is alway decisive for limited items.

rubyserpent_720 (Vor 10 Monaten) #17171403Congrats on your loot! As strange as it sounds I really miss waiting in lines for Comiket freezing in the morning with a mix of anticipation and dread. Ah, nostalgia..
And super bravo to all the (skimpy) cosplayers for braving the cold

Shaolan-kun (Vor 10 Monaten) #17157769Wow, all those people waiting in the cold are really brave! I've been to Comiket twice but always in summer, the heat hit hard but I can bear it more than the cold.
Meeting the authors is really a great experience! Some of them were really amazed that someone from such a far country knew about them and went all the way just to meet them.
Nice loot you got, especially the new Great Moth book. Too bad you couldn't get Dot8 or 110-Groove. Well, good luck for Saturday. I know what it's like ;-D

I used to live in hot/warm country, below 10˚C is already cold for me :P
I'm a big fan of Great Moth, i follow his pixiv since a while and each new illustration he made is a must-have yup ! I was a little sad for Dot8, the stand was sold out around 11:15AM but for 110-Groove, the story between Remilia and Reimu doesn't interest as much he usually do with Reisen.

My list for Saturday is a real pain xD I'll try to focus to the most important for me i think.

Ricotta (Vor 10 Monaten) #17155000Aaah, the memories it brings back, especially of waiting outisde (annoying but mandatory part). I hope I'll be able to do another Comiket one day.
(and once again, thank you do much :3)

The more enjoyable, i think, is to have a genuine contact with the authors, they are accessible and really thankful for buying their work. This kind of experience is really unique , except the crowd, and should be tried at last one time on an entire life.
No problem, i'll try to get the last thing you asked Saturday ^^ I have plenty of circles to do to take their last work but it's manageable i think.
