My top 10 figures of 2015My top 10 figures of 2015

sarahjaynesarahjayneVor 3 JahrenDiary
So after the shocking realisation that I've bought a whopping 55 figures this year I thought why not look back at my purchases and make a list of my top ten figures of 2015. The only real rule I had for this list was the version of the figure had to have been released in 2015, so it does include rereleases and renewal versions but not a figure I may have bought this year but not released this year. So without further ado here's my Top 10 anime figures of 2015...

Number 10 - 1/8 scale Izaya Orihara Renewal version from Altair

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/hIE1428459854.jpeg

Buying Izaya almost breaks one of my figure collecting rules when it comes down to buy characters I'm unfamiliar with. I say almost as I have watched a handful of Durarara episodes and started reading the first light novel, so I do have an initial impression of him but can't say I really know his character properly yet. I also spent what feels like most of the year since his reveal at winter won fest talking myself out of buying him but when I saw him on holiday in a shop in Akihabara back in November he won me over. His billowing coat, confident posture and arrogant smirk makes a great looking figure who neither overshadows or fades into the back ground of my collection. I would really like to pick up the Shizou Heiwajima renewal version to go with him, though as I am rather broke at the moment due to Christmas and have a January from hell for figure releases next month I'll have to hold out for a bit and hope the aftermarket prices don't spike.

Number 9 - Harvest Moon Miku Nendoroid by Good Smile Company

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Kaneel1436756974.jpeg

With the addition of four new Miku Nendoroids to my collection this year it would have been surprising if at least one of them hadn't slipped into my overall favourites. Harvest moon Miku triumphs over all as she is simply beautiful, from her sculpt to her colouring and the accessories she comes with, she has easily become one of my favourite iterations of Hatsune Miku. After her initial announcement I found myself practically stalking the Good Smile site waiting for her preorder to become available. I personally opted for her posed playing her flute with the plastic disk back ground completing the entire look.

Number 8 - 1/8 scale Sakura Saber by Good Smile Company

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Agon1412817786r1412823716.jpeg

I like Saber, she cool and everything but until Sakura Saber I had yet to see an scale figure version of Saber I really wanted. With Sakura Saber however it was love at first unpainted sight. When it comes to figures from first announcement to painted prototype my feelings from the initial excitement I felt can fade especially with the longer the wait. The feelings with this Saber however only increased so when they finally revealed her painted prototype and put her up for preorder I didn't hesitate in ordering her. What I love about Sakura Saber is she contains many elements I love to see in a figure, firstly her pose is full of life and movement, secondly she's wearing traditional Japanese clothing , which is something I love, and finally she's wearing a pair of gorgeous boots. I did not realise how much I liked figures that wear boots till this year . Plus now I have my Saber scale figure quota and I won't feel the need to get another scale saber fig...... oh bugger it

Number 7 - 1/8 Scale Naruto Uzumaki by Megahouse

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/BadWolfVindici1425486867.jpeg

2015 was a year of self discovery, in other words it dawned on me what are the main characteristics in male anime characters that I am drawn to, it turns out I like idiots, loud mouthed, overly confident idiots, preferably but not necessarily blonde. In hindsight why it took me this long to figure that out is beyond me but for the number seven entry on this list is one of the most well know overly confident loud mouth idiots in anime. Attachment to character definitely has as much to do with placement on the list as the quality of this figure and that's not to say that this isn't an excellent figure. My love for Naruto comes far more from nostalgic attachment and love of the character rather than any overly positive feelings towards the show itself. But I'm not here to discuss the anime or manga but this figure. The figure captures the older Naruto precisely, with the air of confidence the figure seems to project to his perfectly sculpted face. The only thing the really confused me about him is that he is described as a 1/8 scale figure but he's huge compared to my other 1/8 scales definitely appears to be more of a 1/7 scale.

Number 6 - Mikazuki Munechika Nendoroid by Good Smile Company

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/hIE1440594289.jpeg

We're back onto nendoroids now. I think we can pretty much accredit the existence of Orange Rouge with the success of the Munechika nendoroid. When he was featured on the Good Smile Company blog I did get the impression that there was an excitable buzz in air around him, what I didn't expect is to wake up on the following morning to preorder him, for him to be out of stock on my usual figure site of choice. I managed to snag him from amiami in the end where his preorders were constantly opening and closing. Now on one hand Good Smile's discovery of its female fan base is opening up an entire plethora of male figures I want to own however financially it's like a punch in the gut, but I digress. Munechika really showcases what a nendoroid can be, detailed but still cute, widely expressive with many posing options and just downright fun to pose on his own as well in a group. He also falls into the category of figures wearing traditional clothing which as previously mention I love and the Torabu boy have some of the most beautiful traditional looking outfits I've ever seen. For me the issue with buying him lead me to get into playing Touken Ranbu, which yes I may highly enjoy but has left me with a determination to buy all the figures I like the sword designs for, unfortunately there are many many sword boys I really like.

Number 5 - Hinata Shoyo and Kageyama Tobio Nendoroid by Good Smile Company

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/hIE1418824150.jpeg

OK I'm kind of cheating here but in my defence, they are designed as a pair. Plus it's my list and I can do what I want. The placement of these two on the list can very much so be tied to my feelings towards the anime Haikyuu. Haikyuu easily tops my favourite list and is a series that just makes me feel immensely happy and excited all at the same time. I remember when the first year combo was announced and the amount of joy I felt at knowing I'd one day own Haikyuu nendoroids. They both come with a wide range of expressions and posing options and I can't imagine how great they'd look if we one day got the whole team. Though not sure if they're enough faceplates in the world for a Tanaka nendoroid.

Number 4 - 1/8 Scale Yato by Megahouse

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Suze1418121288.jpeg

I've mentioned my love for boots on figures right, well Yato's boots are so wonderful that I spend a lot of time just staring at those. But that's not say there aren't other exceptional parts of this figure worth mentioning. For a start there's the sheer amount of choice when it comes to posing him, there's, with and without his scarf, with or without his sake bottle of 5yen coins and also with Yukine before and after he becomes Yato's exempla, the later being a feature I've only become to appreciate as of late as I've only watched the anime and not read the manga. Personally I prefer him with his sake bottle as if I have any complaint it's that I find without it his track suit looks kind of flat without it. Though I do also think him holding the bottle suits his expression more. Another feature I've added myself is the addition of actual five yen coins to his base. Both his pose and facial expression are definitely more representative of the happy moment in Noragami. So yeah, one of my favourite characters from one of my favourite anime is now one of my favourite figures.

Number 3 - Kogitsumaru Nendoroid by Good Smile Company

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/hIE1432781447.jpeg

So this is the final nendoroid I'll be mentioning and he's also from Touken Ranbu. I was unprepared for how much this little nendoroid would impress me when he arrived. I mean don't get me wrong I was looking forward to getting him but he blew me away with his sculpt, quality and over whelming cuteness. He has all the same positives as Jiji's nendoroid but for some reason I was taken with him even more. He's not only my favourite nendoroid of 2015 but probably my favourite nendoroid over all. I currently have all the other Torabu nendoroids and scales preordered so far and I can't wait to see where they take this line of figures.

Number 2 - 1/8 scale Takashi Natsume Renewal Version from Altair

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Agon1409899207r1410326531.jpeg

When he first went up for preorder I really wanted to get him but at that time I had neither watched or read Natsume's Book of Friends so I talked myself out of it. Several months later around the release date of this figure I ended up watching the series and really fell in love with it, of course not forgetting this figure I went hunting for him on the internet. In the end I managed to get him from Amazon Japan through a forwarding service and what can I say other than he is a wonderful figure. The figure captures the illustration he's based off of perfectly though a little less melancholic. Natsume sat on the tree stump with one foot dipping into the water below, holding the book of friends and a decorative kimono , an optional part, draped over his shoulders makes this figure both elaborate yet appear simplistically elegant. What completes this figure is Nyanko-sensei scrabbling up at the top of the trunk. Personally I find his figure to be perfect and he sits pride of place on the top shelf of my detolf.

So if I find Natsume's figure to be perfect then what figure could I possibly prefer over him?

Number 1 - 1/7 scale Aoba Rerelease by Max Factory

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/escape_rope1352831830.jpeg

Well only another figure I consider to be perfect. Aoba was a figure I had come across before getting into collecting figures and I even remember at the time being very impressed with him so when I came across him again once I'd started collecting figures I really felt like I needed to own him. The only problem was his aftermarket price averaged at about £300. He became my holy grail figure and I actually contemplated saving up for him. Fortunately there was a big demand for a rerelease and those wonderful people at Max Factory obliged and back at the very beginning of the year I received this true gem of a figure. Now before preordering him the only thing I really knew about him was that he was from a rather erotic boys love visual novel and that's really not my thing, but they did make an anime and so I watched this god awful anime with it's terrible animation, which I'm sure didn't do the visual novel any justice, to at least somewhat justify buying him (not that I really needed any justification, I mean I'd have still bought him anyway).

Let's talk about the actual figure. As far as elaborate poses and bases goes this guy has got it going on. Aoba himself is falling but obviously not distressed by this if the grin on his face is to give any indication. The halo above his head and hover board at his feet suggests he's in a rhyme battle. The other elements bursting out of his base are all symbols of the different characters from the game, with Clear's umbrella and hands, Mink's pipe (Edit: Not Koujaku's like I originally put, thanks to Envatta for pointing it out :) ), and Noiz's Rabbit faced cubes, amongst others I can't really identify due to my limited knowledge of the source material. To finish it off you've got Aoba's trusty allmate Ren jumping down to him. The sculpt and paintwork are both flawless and he's a figure that easily captures your attention as you enter a room, as such he has a shelf to himself in my detolf. He is the best figure I own as he is truly outstanding but just in case any of you were wondering it's very unlikely I'll be getting that native figure of him coming out in the future.

So there you go, they are my top 10 figures of 2015. What were your favourite figures of 2015?

Here's a goodbye to 2015, many amazing new figures came out this year and here's to a figure filled 2016, to my wallet I apologize in advanced.

sarahjayne (Vor 3 Jahren) #5776447That Atobe figure does look really cool and I was quite tempted to order him myself but I have never watch Prince of Tennis so I resisted.
I know how you feel, I started collecting about two years ago and looking at some of the figures I missed out on getting and couldn't justify paying the aftermarket prices was pretty frustrating.

I see. Figure is beautiful and suits Atobe. Good for you that you can limit yourself.
Good to know. By the way I didn't notice ITEM #189854 which I bought in 2015 was released in 2014 so he may not count into favourite 2015 figures. I hope to get in 2016 scales figures I missed. I don't have much space for now so I want firstly to get my priorities. When I buy my priorities (which is difficult because I preordered some figures on 2016 XD) I will think about my misery. I mean about prices of some figures after release for example limited and exclusive figures from MegaHouse and my holy grail from Tsume(it's holy grail because of really really high price).
Thankfully I became picky and don't want to have all nendoroids from Touken Ranbu. Earlier I wanted to collect them all. XD For now none Touken Ranbu scale picked my interest enough to buy it. Even if I wanted I am sure couldn't afford. I may change my mind if they will make for example Jiroutachi scale figure.
Now I will try limit buying nendoroids but it's difficult to resist its cuteness and design. XD

CrowMaiden (Vor 3 Jahren) #5776194Nice list! I like the write ups for why you picked them!
(I personally only got like 11 figures in 2015 and a couple were boxes of trading figures so I can hardly make a top ten hahaha)

Thanks for reading it :). I have to admit when I counted up just how many figures I'd bought I was a little bit horrified, though the majority of them were nendoroids. Gonna try cut back at least a little bit next year.

Ectoplasm (Vor 3 Jahren) #5776414Those two Touken Ranbu nendos are what got me interested in what I thought was a manga. Is it actually a game..? Haha.
Super jelly of your Natsume and Yato figures. If you have not watched Natsume, you really should!!

Yeah it's a web browser game, that for what it is, is surprisingly addictive.

I have watched Natsume now and I love it, it's what pushed me into buying him along with all the volumes of the manga that had been released at the time. It was a very expensive month.

Envatta (Vor 3 Jahren) #5769174Nice list, but just a small correction. It's Mink's pipe, not Koujaku's. Koujaku is represented by the red birds at the top of the chains.
I snagged the rerelease, too, and he is definitely in my top 5. He's pretty much the perfect figure.

Thanks for pointing it out, I've changed it :)
