This is an update from my previous dilemma with my Sanada Yukimura figure. Here's a reminder if curiosity strikes you. The damage was disheartening.

I made a post about the alchohol damage on my Sanada Yukimura figure in the past. I read through the comments but not much seemed to work. There were a few options handed to me that I can still take action with.
  • Decorating the fans..
  • Using "Varnish" to paint over it..?
  • Or finding a painting specialist.
I am not creative enough to decorate the fans so that I'd want to display it again. I don't have painting skills either. I'd sell it before attempting to paint myself. And I know not of any specialists that I won't have to sell my body to receive their services.

The one thing that does make the fans look completely new is when I wipe them with water. The white stains fade away so long as they are wet, but they come back just the same when the water dries. What I wanted to ask is if there is a spray or gel of some kind that I could use to keep that area wet? Something that doesn't stand out and is transparent/unnoticeable. Also, is "varnish" removable if I tried to apply it?

DonkeyBlonkeyVor 7 Jahren#1499112The thinner should be able to remove the varnish.
The Matte coat should be able to cover the alcohol.

RuttsuTo restore the fan you could use a matte clear coat, something like this www.michaels.co...

best regards,
Ruttsu.

Here are the new pictures from just now. :)

I even went outta my way to add some sheen to her hair, knees and jacket. Her shoes too. Got a little willy nilly with it. But all in all, thank you for your help.

Reading through the comments, I'm glad you found that linseed oil works for you.
Luckily, linseed oil is one of the least toxic oil based paint mediums, which is really great for you and your figure.

In your photos, is the linseed oil completely dry? It appears to be.
You had a pretty good idea to use the linseed oil. Isn't PVC derived from oil (though obviously not linseed oil)? It makes sense that they could possibly work together.
I hope it retains that sheen for you.

I got really excited that you used linseed oil because I am a painter who works with linseed oil every day.

AkaiVor 6 Jahren#1880385You didn't specify if you used the topcoat + thinner or the Krylon by itself. Which ones did you use?
It looks reeeeally nice. I am amazed. The figure looks even more beautiful with that extra "sheen." Makes it look even more expensive.

It's a long story but I tried a different item instead. I recently bought some supplies for canvas painting and one of them was linseed oil. The color was gold at first but on a surface, it is clear. I had a hunch and went with it and ran a thin layer over the damaged area and the gloss had the same effect as water but was permanent.

100% Alchohol damage gets negated by Linseed Oil and a soft brush. I'm happy to read she looks like new money! LoL That totally made my day. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed the recovery process.

I also applied the oil to Ryouko's boot tips, KOS-MOS' ver.4 Armor and hair, Hattori Junko's armor and hair tips, and Momohime's Armor and flower clips. They look lively with rich and deeper color tones!

Thanks a lot! I had nothing to lose because she was damaged already. ^^

katsudonVor 6 Jahren#1879730I actually never give scale too much of a thought actually- though I probably should, as 1/6s look really out of place next to 1/7 and 1/8s. -_- And thanks, manda has her every once in a while, but it's always at inopportune times- and I feel like if I own her, I might as well complete the set... (since I already have Jubei and Naoe)
It's funny I feel the opposite- I don't need to complete the set because Hattori Junko and Narika look great next to her already.

Figures that are in motion are pleasing to see next to Sanada Yukimura as she does look like she's revealing/presenting something with the fans.

iTheShirtVor 6 Jahren#1879129Thanks! I am happy to have her back on my shelf. She's very nice. I also want her other taller version but I try not to get figures outside the 1/8 scale. Good luck in your search. :D
