Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai - Takahara Ayumi - EX Figure SEGA PrizeKami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai - Takahara Ayumi - EX Figure SEGA PrizeReview

! This review doesn't have pantyshots, but is from a character in small gym shorts, which can be considered NSFW !

Welcome to my review! Today I will be talking about a figure of Takahara Ayumi ENCYCLOPEDIA #5928 from the series Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai (The World God Only Knows) ENCYCLOPEDIA #915 ! This is a prize figure ITEM #63229 made by SEGA ENCYCLOPEDIA #7642 .

I will start off with telling some more about her background.

Background

Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai (The World God Only Knows) is an series about Keima Katsuragi. He loves to play romantic visual novels and completes every one of them by letting the girls in the game fall in love with him. This is the complete opposite of his daily high school life, where he is seen as quiet and geeky. One day he agrees to a challenge of a cute demon to use all his in-game practice of "capturing girls", but now for real! The reason why girls need to be "captured", is because of sprits some girls have inside them, only love can make sure these spirits leave the body.

Takahara Ayumi is one of Keima's classmates and the first girl which he tries to "capture". She is on the sports team as a track runner.

The reason why and how I got her

I found Ayumi for a good price for sale on a local forum. Although I actually want to buy less prize figures and focus more on scaled figures and trading figures in my collection, they still seem to win me over with their cheap prices and nice poses!

Original art

I couldn't find official artwork with the exact same posing as the figure has.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-lvGitOWNyvY/Unpb6qH_qXI/AAAAAAAAEwg/UdRQErrbLG4/s640/503831.jpg

Above artwork is the closest I could find when it comes to posing and clothes of the figure. Compared to her 2D-appearance the figure has lighter eyes and a lighter skin color. The clothing is brighter colored on the figure, but the detailing of it is spot-on.

The Box

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-uHNG_x1a8Gk/Uno9neih0ZI/AAAAAAAAEsA/sarnYom9-Gg/s640/IMG_8636.JPG

The box is simple (more of my SEGA prize figures have likewise layout on the box), but the cute pattern makes up for it! There is only one window, but it's big, so it gives a good view of Ayumi! Both figures of the set come with the same box, that happens also a lot with prize figures from SEGA.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-vPZG9lH2Bao/Uno9pWRixpI/AAAAAAAAEw4/znU413_yG9Y/s800/IMG_8637.JPG

The top of the box has a very cute skull-logo (which is the skull the demon Keima meets in the series wears as a hair clip!).

First Look

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-YBKxgrLdSC0/Uno9rRaj65I/AAAAAAAAEsg/FYQDieJurog/s640/IMG_8641.JPG

As with most of prize figures, she has a complete backpart blister, but her front part is only protecting the middle part of her body (and with that also makes sure she doesn't move in the box). Ayumi is glued onto her base and that's also the reason why it doesn't have a seperate part in the box.

The Figure

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-CGLBRzFrnOA/Uno9wL7uEPI/AAAAAAAAEtA/J6NatqDYzO8/s640/IMG_8645.JPG

First impression: I didn't expect such lively colors! Her colorscheme is quite simple, but it makes her pants, shoes and hair ribbon stand out way more! I also really like the skull-logo on the base!

Looking at all the details!

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-S4TIXHYu354/Uno9zs77vLI/AAAAAAAAEtU/F9s672db0xo/s800/IMG_8646.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-67HzVo8kWJ8/Uno9zjiesLI/AAAAAAAAEtY/lXaqyfveCFY/s800/IMG_8648.JPG

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-m-RWJo1gTOE/Uno91vaX7gI/AAAAAAAAEtg/68SPvUryrAI/s800/IMG_8649.JPG

Starting with her hair! It's not shaded and only one color brown. Small white spots and imperfections are to be seen, I think they happened because of dust that came inbetween the figure and paint while manufacturing.

The detailing in her hair is quite okay. She has a lot of seperate bangs adding detail, but they could have been a bit less rough (they feel a bit "pasted" against each other now).

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6hJF-xiy_fI/Uno93OQcfyI/AAAAAAAAEto/Ge6MUdrvL74/s800/IMG_8650.JPG

She has a big ribbon with one side-hairtail. The ribbon has some small wrinkle details, the hairtail itself is quite simple and the same small painting mistakes as in the rest of the hair can be seen.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-pLNWcwA0nx4/Uno9zGdJg-I/AAAAAAAAEtQ/my8v3n8cNCk/s800/IMG_8647.JPG

She has nicely put on decals. Her eye color is a lot brighter than expected (more yellow instead of brown), but that way it stands out a lot from her hair, which is a plus for me!

Her face is very pale. It doesn't really fit the character's design and because of the lack of shading it looks a bit...cheap? Her mouth is quite simple, but neatly painted.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-5-mTHDhTA48/Uno96L1DuhI/AAAAAAAAEuA/U7wtaU1d2EI/s800/IMG_8651.JPG

The medal she's holding is from track running, judging by the golden color, she got first place! I think that the sculpting from her hand to her medal was done quite well, with this figure I was afraid for the hand to look connected to the medal, but it's not! However, there is some paint from the medal bleeding to the hand and the other way around, but only to be seen from up close.

The ribbon on the medal is quite traditional red-white-blue. It's not very clean painted when you look at it up-close, but from a distance it looks very good!

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-6j_fQ7DiyKU/Uno99VNV-zI/AAAAAAAAEuw/l7aLp5EVSfs/s800/IMG_8657.JPG

The sculpting of her left-hand is done a less well than her right hand. Her index- and middlefinger are connected and look like one. Luckily most of the attention goes to her right hand with the medal.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-PlE348qEg7k/Uno96cJik9I/AAAAAAAAEuQ/lROb1hUFKaA/s640/IMG_8654.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9sUNiyzBWCA/Uno98Eo4y0I/AAAAAAAAEuY/DJmywQy16-U/s640/IMG_8655.JPG

Her outfit is her sports' clothing. Consisting of a white t-shirt with her name on it and a small pair of red running shorts with what I think should be a white name tag, but is too small of a detail to show the name.

The shirt shows more details than I expected, there are a lot of wrinkles both in the front and the back. The white color is very even and no paint transfers are to be seen (that was something I was a bit afraid of when buying a figure with so much white color). The shorts were kept quite simple, except for a small crease in the backside that gives you a better idea of the shape of her behind.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-lbM_F1s2MCM/Uno98N2L4hI/AAAAAAAAEuU/PBYLVJT4Ems/s640/IMG_8656.JPG

There is a small white spot on the left of her running shorts, but next to that the paint is flawless there.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-I2P94noNm1E/Uno99xBMBqI/AAAAAAAAEu4/TqmbI-KsiZY/s640/IMG_8660.JPG

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Z9idq9m1mOY/Uno995sP8KI/AAAAAAAAEus/uzIDBO-dw0M/s640/IMG_8658.JPG

On both her left- and rightside you can see a huge seamline. It wasn't cleaned off very neatly and especially on her right-sleeve there is a big leftover. It was to be expected of a prize figure, but I was personally hoping for better...

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-jASGis76JfA/Uno9-5cjUEI/AAAAAAAAEvA/F0OoynoPPKY/s640/IMG_8661.JPG

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-olQE_rwSygQ/Uno9_4wjfmI/AAAAAAAAEvM/fULLVxKREEE/s640/IMG_8662.JPG

And now...onto her legs! I really like the posing of them, but I don't like how shiny they are. I know that it's quite common for prize figures to have shiny skin color, but her legs are just way too shiny to me. It's quite weird, since it's the same material and color as her arms and face, but those don't shine that much!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-D6cO9EtriLE/Uno-BAHXtqI/AAAAAAAAEvU/VB74vXXP5e8/s640/IMG_8666.JPG

A nice detail is the band-aid on her left-knee. There is not much detailing and the paint is so-so, but I appreciate it being there!

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-oSGS0kn2ZYA/Uno-EGoOuPI/AAAAAAAAEvk/zv_jfn_BXZ8/s800/IMG_8667.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-B29VJ9A8SdY/Uno-F0kBc_I/AAAAAAAAEvw/688qgDggRcE/s800/IMG_8668.JPG

Ayumi's shoes look very good! There is quite some detailing in the sculpt to be seen here. The bold blue color also makes her shoes stand out a lot, which is appreciated with a figure wearing such simple clothing!

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-QVSBqU1zu5E/Uno-EVh5OwI/AAAAAAAAEvs/V01cos6RFO8/s800/IMG_8669.JPG

Her shoes have the typical sports/running-shoes soles. A nice detail.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-xbZbcC45EJs/Uno-HpX4f-I/AAAAAAAAEv8/bjypPBdoZgw/s800/IMG_8670.JPG

Ayumi's base is just the right size. She is glued onto it and can't be removed from the base. The base itself shows a logo from the series and is quite a cute logo in my opinion! But if you don't know the series it can look a bit random that a sporty girl has a skull as a base...

As a Takahara Ayumi-fan, should I get it?

This has been asked to me multiple times before. Well, I can answer with: This is the only figure made from her (and I actually don't expect any more made), she can be found for cheap and is still for sale at quite some places! So if you like the character, go for it! But keep my review in mind so you can be prepared for the quality you will get! ;)

Summary or tl;dr

I actually expected more from this prize figure, since I saw quite some good prize figures from SEGA. That aside, for a prize figure, she is just under the average quality, but can be a good addition to your collection if you're a fan of "Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai (The World God Only Knows)".

Positive
- I really like the design of the base.
- Very simple, but nice posing.
- Her shoes.

Neutral
- Normal prize figure box. Quite some sturdiness, safely inside the blisters, but not much special to mention.
- Very different eye color from the original character. I think it looks better on the figure, but it's not close to the original character design.
- Quite some small mistakes, seamlines, painting etc. Expected from a prize figure, but there are more than I was hoping/expecting personally.

Negative
- Very shiny legs.

The Scores

Sculpting 7/10
They tried their best to make some good details, such as the sculpting of her fingers near the medal and the wrinkles in her shirt, however a big downside in the sculpt are the huge seamlines on both sides of the figure.

Painting 6/10
Her clothing and details are painted quite neatly, but her hair has a lot of dust/mistakes and her legs are very shiny.

Posing 7/10
The posing is very nice. It's a good way to pose a sporty character without her being in action.

Base 7/10
Not too big, not too small. Cute logo from the series is on the base. Ayumi can't be removed from the base itself.

Packaging 7/10
Quite standard prize-figure packaging. Quite sturdy and enough blisters, but not very special.

Enjoyment 6/10
Mainly because of my own expectations, I was a bit disappointed in this figure. However, I managed to get her for quite a good price!

And to finish it!

Here is how she stands in my current collection!

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-boCP_PH0ifg/Uno-IK_y73I/AAAAAAAAEwA/TiHT3YsT6nE/s800/IMG_8671.JPG

She's together with some of my other prize figures! I think she fits in quite nicely!

For those who read all this way, Thank you! My next review will be about Black Magician from Yu-Gi-Oh!: ITEM #91372 I hope to finish it up in a few weeks!

VioFitzVor 6 Jahren#1946521What made me think that because the details on her legs aren't that pleasing because it's way too smooth like a pole stick, especially on the back of her knees. They should do some wrinkle sculpt/shade on the back of her knees.

Yeah most of the times I see a bit of shading on the legs, but a lot of prize figures just seem to lack shading overall and all their parts are painted with one specific color. (An example is that I also never see shading in the hair on prize figures...and only a few of them have painted skin instead of directly seeing the plastic that is sometimes also shiny...)

MaakieVor 6 Jahren#1938445Pole stick legs, oh wow. :'D But I have to agree with you there that they don't look really athletic... :P
I agree with your other points! ^w^ I still like the shoes the most I think with this figure.

VioFitzVor 6 Jahren#1933875I personally liked her face, especially her eyes. But, I have to agree that her face looked pale. Her hair imo looked too plain since there's no further detailing shade, they can do better than that actually... Yeah, the shoes are undeniably great, & the legs... Looked more like a pole stick somehow.

S1257Vor 6 Jahren#1863882I think of it on the bell curve. So if something is a 6.6, that means it is better than 66% of figures and worse than 44% of figures.

Pheww! That would make it quite hard! :O

I mean, do you compare it then to ALL figures? O.O Or just compared to other prize figures? O.O

Because if I would compare her to all figures, she would probably be around 40-50% then (because of a lot of low quality gashapons and trading figures existing), but if I would compare her to all existing prize figures, she would probably be around 20-30%, since there are a lot of better prize figures around. If I would compare her to all figures from this manufacturer she would probably get a 10-20%.

MaakieVor 6 Jahren#1862570Hrmmm well for me, but maybe that's also because of the school/college-rating system in the Netherlands, a 6 is a "just passed". So to give a figure a 6 would mean it's just acceptable/okay quality. Since this prize figure has a bit of details I didn't expect and I liked the base and packaging I gave these grades and a 6.6 total would mean it's above passed, but nowhere near being really good.
But numbers/grades are all opinions of course. ;) So if you don't agree, that's your right! ;D

S1257Vor 6 Jahren#1858584Yeah, I meant the scores. 6.6 is above average, and it doesn't seem like an above average figure to me. But that's just my opinion.

MaakieVor 6 Jahren#1858491Ohh! :O I see, it looks a lot better! I actually have multiple prize figures with quite some shine problems, such as my PICTURE #748317 ! I just thought those eraser tricks were only for erasing transfers. I have quite some of those erasers here, since I bought and used them in the past for transfer removal, so I will try it out! :)
You mean with the scores I gave the figure? Well, actually at first I had lower scores for this figure, but when I was spellcheck-reading it, I compared it to some other reviews of prize figures I did and changed her scores a bit. But maybe they are too high now indeed...

Vor 6 Jahren
kevinlowlVor 6 Jahren#1857588Yes, you are right, they do work for paint smudges. And that's where I found out they also work in removing shine off a figure. Well, you won't get matte skin as nice as scaled figures but it does make it somewhat better.
Behold!Behold!
Forgive the crap pictures, it's at night and I have a bad light source. Only cropped and unedited to not botch the test. The part in question is the right arm.
Before eraser:

After eraser:

Also, this Ayanami has got to be one of SEGA's worse prize figures. Maybe only second to this other Ayanami. It's really a hit or miss with SEGA's quality control.
So, if you're a cheapskate like me and wouldn't mind spending some time in making your prize figures look a little better, you can do this. :p
