There are a lot of people that disregard their dietary restrictions but that doesn't seem very wise. I wonder if she ended up sharing those snacks with other people before she left instead of eating it all herself.
The Megahouse Victor bothered me too. It's great seeing more new male figures being made, but as you mentioned, he looked way too shiny and the paint job conveys a material similar to latex which I doubt they were going for. There doesn't seem to be any issues with the Nendoroids at least. I was surprised to see Yuuri's at some American stores already.
An ice hockey anime wasn't something I realized I wanted lol. I think I would like to see an anime about e-sports (focusing on team-based game like Overwatch or a fighting game like Tekken) or chess. There are a lot of anime about characters in games, but nothing (that I'm aware of?) that focuses on the competitiveness of tournaments and how that impacts the player's RL. And then there are already anime about go and mahjong so I don't think chess would be too far out there, especially since the characters could come from all sorts of diverse backgrounds. I am surprised there isn't much anime focusing on Japanese sports. I didn't even know of Bamboo Blade or Yawara until you mentioned it. A lot series I've come across that focus on martial arts tend to add a fantastical element to it so it's no longer about the sport itself but about the magical powers that come from it.

The only person she could have shared with was her boyfriend. Perhaps he had some but I know she was disliked by the neighbors because she played music rather loud and rarely took out her trash so passing by her door was like passing a dumpster. >.> I only know this because I had the misfortune of helping her clean up and throw out the trash before I was to move in. -___-

I was hoping the ToysWorks figures would somehow turn out okay too but they were even worse than Megahouse. Right now my hope is that Kotobukiya picks up more characters and GSC decides to do more as well. I have three Megahouse scales and they're rather nice so I'm sad the YoI ones just aren't looking as great. ~_~

Muwahahaha I have planted the seed of ice hockey XDD I just think it's one of those weird sports that isn't horrifically popular, but when you do find a Japanese person who likes it, they're really really deep in there. I went to an amateur match once and it was insane, haha.

I agree that it would be really cool to see an e-sports based anime series. It's just sad that e-sports don't seem to be as big in Japan as they are in the west and in South Korea. I think I've only met 2 or 3 PC gamers while I was in Japan, almost everyone is about console, and of course it's mostly PS4 for adults and Nintendo for kids.

Chess would be interesting for sure. I enjoyed Hikaru no Go and Akagi so I'd hope that a chess series would have a similar feeling to them. Admittedly Hikaru no Go had a supernatural element to it and Akagi was rather dark, haha.

Weirdly I think it would be really funny to see a comedy series of friends playing The Game of Life. It's actually a rather popular board game in Japan so I think it might work XDDD

heroizumi (Vor 2 Tagen) #29661646View spoilerHide spoilerI went to university with that teacher (she's older than me) and she was always kinda...weird? Like I can understand some stuff to a point, but she was in the Japanese program for 5 or 6 years and only made it to level 2. She barely came to class because she claimed she was sick.
When I met her again she was talking about how hard it was living in Japan as a diabetic because of how much white rice they eat. I understand that cuz my mom is diabetic as well. What I didn't get was that she wanted to hang out before she left and took me to one of the adult student's bakeries. She bought an entire cake and a few other things (cream puffs, pudding, etc). She was leaving in a few days so obviously she meant to eat it before then.....but she's diabetic so large amounts of sweets should be a no-no.....but not for her I guess. ~_~ She's just a weird person.
YoI will forever haunt me I think, lol! I ordered Kotobukiya's Coach Victor but I think both of the Megahouse ones look bad. Victor is too shiny and Yuuri's face seems off. I'm hoping Yurio will look okay though. And I have hope for GSC's scales of Victor and Yuuri. I've never seen a bad scale by them XD
I have to agree about the less than ordinary sports. I was rather pleased with All Out!! even though rugby isn't very popular here. I'd be interested in seeing a series about ice hockey to be honest. I watched a J-drama that was based around an ice hockey team and it was wonderful. I can only imagine the weird things that would come from some animated ice hockey. XD Any sports you think you'd like to come across an anime of? Also don't you think it's weird there aren't many sports series featuring Japanese sports? I can only really think of are Bamboo Blade (kendo) and Yawara. (judo) I'm sure there are more martial arts ones out there, but I feel like a lot of them will combine loads of styles like Ranma 1/2.

I realize there's nothing to do about it now since it's been years, but there should have been some sort of fine for leaving the place empty since someone else was going to move in after.
Sounds like you will be stuck collecting YoI for awhile because they're not going to let up lol. Are you collecting any of the scale figures?
I find that the "weird sports" seem to be the most interesting. Like that's how I came across Yowapeda and Ping Pong. Not that more mainstreams sports aren't as good or anything, it's just... for example there are many soccer and baseball anime. I like learning about new sports so it's not usually introducing a lot of new things to me sports-wise lol.
I see some Ippo figures for sale once in awhile, but they're always made of resin. They sure look nice, but seems very fragile.

heroizumi (Vor 6 Tagen) #29478492View spoilerHide spoilerI don't know what that teacher was doing. She gave everything that was in the apartment to her boyfriend and then moved back to the USA. I doubt he needed it because he was older and owned his own house. Like...she didn't even leave hangers behind. The people at my school were angry because it was unfair to me. I didn't bring enough to purchase everything because I didn't think I needed to. ~_~ A lot of the people in the office ended up finding things they didn't need at home to donate to the apartment.
I do remember seeing some of the figures up for sale again but I'm still caught up in Yuri on Ice so I've hardly been looking at other stuff XD
I've heard of Ping Pong but I've never checked it out, ahaha. It's another one of the weird sports series XDD
I remember seeing stuff about Hajime no Ippo while I was in high school but I dismissed it because I was like "boxing...why would you want to watch an anime series about that???" but 2-3 years ago my friend highly recommended it. It was 1000000% worth it. Too bad the figures totally went crazy in price. ;__; I have one little Miyata and pray that one day they'll release more figures. I'd love to have some more Ippo stuff. I discovered it was cheaper buying animation cels than it was to get Ippo figures. XD That is weird idea for sure, but yeah XD

And I can see why that teacher would want to take the furniture/appliances she spent money on but would have been nice if she had left the old stuff in a storage somewhere. Are you still teaching nowadays or using Japanese in your current job?
I think some of the older Slam Dunk figures are getting re-released this month? Although perhaps pre-orders would be closed now. But hopefully they'll be easier to track down since there will be more in the market.
Ice skating and dancing are just as rigorous as other sports so never really get why people criticize them as not "real" sports. I guess since there's not one team facing off against another? Unfortunately I still have not seen Hajime no Ippo although I know it's highly regarded. Have you watched Ping Pong? It's a bit… quirky compared to other sports series, but honestly one of my favorites. It was kind of one of those shows I watched on a whim and ended up being a surprise gem.

There's too much crap I'm already collecting, I don't need another!! But art looks so nice ;__;
I lived in Japan on two different occasions. The first time was my study abroad while I was still learning Japanese in university. That time was about 10 months. I'd gone to Japan the summer prior with my university and knew that if I wanted to get better I'd definitely have to study abroad.
The second time was for work after I graduated. I spent 3 and a half months in Choshi, Chiba working at a university, then I spent about 3 years and a few months teaching at a language school in Gifu City, Gifu. Both of these places are fairly middle of nowhere, hahaha.
The issue was that my apartment in Gifu was supposed to be "fully furnished" but when I got there, the teacher who'd lived there before me had thrown everything out and bought her own stuff...which she took with her. I never even had a TV because I couldn't afford to get one. I just ended up pirating stuff the whole time. ~_~
Yep! I've seen both Eyeshield 21 and Slam Dunk! I can't say I was that big of a fan of Eyeshield, but Slam Dunk is great! I really want to get the figures of everyone but the only person who seems to be selling them here on MFC only ships within Europe ;__;
I think my favorite sports series are Hajime no Ippo, Yuri on Ice, Haikyuu, Touch and Ballroom e Yokoso XD Definitely a wide range of sports. Some people might argue that YoI and Ballroom aren't "real" sports...but I disagree lol I'd think of those, the most borderline is Touch because it focuses a lot more on the characters than on the sport itself. XD

Oh whoa, how long did you live in Japan? I can understand not being as interested in anime while living there since I'd imagine it'd be more accessible/prominent compared to overseas where you have to go out of your way to watch/find anime.
I think Haikyuu is a really great sports series to get into since it appeals to all age groups and has something for everyone. Plus it's a bit more realistic compared to other sports series in terms of the character's skills/abilities. Of course, it's probably not the best series to get into because there's so much merch LOL. Have you watched Slam Dunk or Eyeshield 21? They're much older but I like recommending them to people. *^*
That's definitely a terrible feeling when you see something you paid full price for hit the bargain bin. It's one of the reasons I don't really check out sales sections for a lot of sites unless I’m bored. I just try to tell myself it worked out in the end because I got my item early and it's something I don't regret buying in the end lol.

I was fairly late into the sports anime craze (kinda??). While I was living in Japan I grew tired of anime and was mostly watching J-drama and other English language dramas. I only got back into anime once I came back to the USA and was kind of lusting for more Japanese.
I had a head start back into anime by watching Free!, though I didn't watch it until 2 years after it aired...as well as Tiger & Bunny which was out ages before I watched it XDD
Once I got back to the USA I focused on catching up on Naruto Shippuuden, then I watched Haikyuu. I haven't turned back since. XD I watched a few more sports series, though not all of them are the more shippy kind of shows. XDD I did watch Prince of Tennis ages ago when I was in high school though.
I must admit I'm happy when things bin it when it's something I wanted but not enough to buy at full price. However it feels so terrible to pay full price for something that bins and goes to like...50% off or more, ahaha.

noctisity (Vor 10 Tagen) #29301794View spoilerHide spoilerI don't think the later Dynamic Chord games got good reviews so I'm not sure if they'll get around to giving Shinomune a fan disc unfortunately. I was really hoping the anime would help introduce people to the series but from what I've seen, people don't really want to give it a try after the first and second episode (which I totally understand).
Midousuji definitely is a particular dude. I really like T2 so I'm excited to see they actually have an active role in the new season. The problem is I like collecting their merch in pairs so I gotta be careful lol.
Oh no, you just gotta think the opposite then! That way you can be pleasantly surprised when they do bin lol. It looks like people really like to ship Otabek with Yuri P. and may have contributed to his rise in popularity? Although he's quite an attractive character so I'm surprised there wasn't interest in him early on.
